What is Stage Whisper?

Stage Whisper is an AI-powered text-adventure platform. You can create a character, define the world, and let the AI Game Master run the world for you as you explore it. You can give as much or as little detail as you want, the AI Game Master will fill in the rest

There are few limitations for what you do and how the world works. You can pick any genre, western, noir, space opera, high fantasy. You can meet NPCs, fight, do quests, form a party or mercenary group, engage in political intrigue, fly to a different planet, you're free to choose, as long as you can convince the AI Game Master how your character has the means to do so

How do I play?

Log in up, create a campaign, and start chatting! It's a text-adventure. The AI Game Master will walk you through the steps to create a new campaign, define a world, and your character. You can fill in any gaps as you play.

You can run sessions through Discord or directly on the web. You can pick up your session from either side, whenever you need, at your pace. There are no turn timers, just chat.

Can I build the world and customize every character?

Yes! The name of the game is collaborative storytelling. You can let the AI Game Master come up with everything, or tell the AI Game Master exactly what you want in the world and how it works. You can make up details as you go too, within reason, if you can convince the AI GM to incorporate it into your game. The AI will keep your game files updated.

What is the role of the AI Game Master?

The AI GM is the narrator, every NPC, and also the one that keeps your world running and ticking over. You tell the AI GM what your character does or says, the AI GM will narrate the scene and have NPCs or the world respond or react to your actions.

The AI GM will keep track of your character or party's status, and will make dice rolls for you when you want to use a skill to take on a particular challenge to see if you succeed or fail.

Do I need to learn the rules of TTRPGs to play?

Not at all. Stage Whisper is designed for people who want the creative experience of TTRPGs without the rule overhead. The Stage Whisper System has minimal rules, just a simple set of skill checks and dice rolls, which the AI will handle for you. You focus on the story and roleplay.

Can my character die?

Unless it's part of the game world you set up, no. The Stage Whisper System doesn't use health points, if you fail skill checks, then your task will get harder as you gain more complications and negative statuses.

For example, if your character gets shot during a firefight, rather than dying, you may get a negative status of being wounded, which will affect your rolls later. If you keep failing further checks, your character may get captured. The AI GM will try its hardest to not let your story end. Even in the worst case, it may offer to let you switch to a different character's PoV to mount a rescue of your regular character. Or it may offer to retcon a detail or roll the scene back to give you more options.

How much does it cost?

TBD. credits system coming soon. You'll be able to bring your own API key to keep costs low, or purchase credits through the app.

How is this different from other AI text adventures?

Stage Whisper focuses on narrative consistency across long campaigns. As you play, it maps out the world, and keeps track of what NPCs have seen or heard, threats that you have to deal with. So that every session feels narratively consistent with the previous one.

Stage Whisper also uses a TTRPG system specially developed for the platform, called SWS (Stage Whisper System), which provides simple skill-check mechanics and dice rolls, so that there's some randomness and decision-making involved during play. You will need to figure out the best action based on your character's strengths, or bring the right NPCs with your party

Can I play with friends?

Currently Stage Whisper is solo-focused. But multiplayer support is on the roadmap.
